SAINT-GERMAIN-EN-LAYE
Royal city
A photographic stroll in the historic heart of my city, royal city from Louis VI le Gros to Louis XIV.
Old Castle
Called Old Castle, the castle of Saint-Germain-en-Laye is a former royal residence. Overlooking the Seine valley, it has crossed the centuries to the rhythm of events in the history of France. It now houses the National Archaeological Museum.
Palatine chapel
Built between 1234 and 1238 by Saint Louis, the Palatine Chapel of the castle is the first of its kind and will serve as an architectural model for the Saintes-chapelles and more particularly for the best known, that of Paris.
Heart of town
Saved heart, historic and heritage city center of the royal city.
Saint Germain Church
The Saint-Germain church has a long history from 1020 to the present day. 4th church of the name, it has traveled through the centuries and the reign of many kings. Burned by the English in 1346, rebuilt under Charles V, it collapsed in 1681. A new church was built under Louis XIV in 1683, too small, the construction of a 4th church began in 1766, before the French Revolution, it will not be completed until 1829.
